Arkane Studios Discuss Inspiration Behind Deathloop's Blackreef Island


Deathloop first arrived last month and since then, we've learned a few details about Arkane Studios' latest hit. Discussing this via Twitter, they've offered fresh details about the game's inspirations, including the setting.

As spotted on Deathloop's official Twitter, Arkane revealed that Blackreef Island - the game's central location - was inspired by Edinburgh, Scotland. Stating how the "dark shades of stone facades made from the rock present on the island.”

Adding to this, Arkane confirmed they took inspiration from the Faroe Islands too, giving it that "isolated village feel.” Alongside this, Deathloop level designer Julien Eveillé revealed last month there's still one thing players have yet to discover in the game.

Eveillé's offered a few hints to potential secret finders, calling it “on the nose" and "a consequence of an action carried out earlier in the game," but presently, no one's worked it out.
