CS:GO Major Championship Prize Pools Increased to $1,000,000.

CS:GO Major Championship Prize Pools Increased to $1,000,000.

In an announcement made on Tuesday, 23rd February 2016, via the official Counter Strike blog, Valve have revealed that starting with MLG Columbus, each CS:GO Major Championship prize pool will now sit at a substantial $1,000,000.

The decision to increase the prize pool of each CS:GO Major follows the unprecedented rate at which the professional CS:GO community has grown at. As Valve states in their announcement, since the launch of the first Major Championship in 2013, CS:GO tournaments have grown into one of the “largest esports events in the world, drawing global audiences of millions of viewers and filling massive venues”.

Therefore, in order to maintain the competitive integrity and scale of each Major, the prize pools have been appropriately quadrupled.

With multiple Major Championships scheduled throughout the year and an increased incentive for players, I can only echo Vavle’s final statement. I look forward to another great year of CS:GO competitions.
