Daymak Electric Car Mines Cryptocurrency When Parked

Light electric vehicle manufacturer Daymak plans to release the Spiritus, an electric car that can mine cryptocurrency in its downtime.

Using the Nebula Miner, the Spiritus can mine Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, and more cryptocurrencies, says Daymak. Daymak included Cardano on the list of coins the Spiritus could mine, although Cardano is staked, not mined.

Spiritus owners can also access their cryptocurrency wallet via the Spiritus dashboard, where they can trade or stake their cryptocurrency.

Three-Wheeler Mining

Speaking on a Yahoo Finance Live panel, Aldo Baiocchi, Daymak’s founder, gave further insight into the Spiritus’ crypto capabilities.

The founder noted that many people will use their cars for less than one hour a day, leaving 23 hours for their vehicles to mine cryptocurrency, rather than sit idle. According to Mr Baiocchi, owners could make between $5 and $12, depending on prices.

He described the decision to include crypto mining as “logical since the car comes with computes on board, and most cars as you know they depreciate.”

Of course, having a screen doesn’t mean your car is capable of crypto mining. While the Tesla Model S includes an AMD RDNA 2 GPU capable of running AAA games, this is an outlier.

To earn between $5-12 mining ETH, the Spiritus would need a hashrate between 100-200 MH/s (via CryptoCompare). The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 has a hash rate of around 100 MH/s.

Daymak has not revealed the specifics of its mining hardware. Images on its website show a mining hashrate of 115.6 MH/s, but this may just be a mock-up intended to show off the UI.

The Daymak Spiritus is a three-wheeled, two-seater electric vehicle that starts from $19,995. It is set to release in 2023.
