Brazilian football club São Paulo FC now accepts Shiba Inu payments for tickets, the club has confirmed.
After announcing support for cryptocurrency via BitSo, the club joins a range of companies that now accept SHIB, including AMC.
Here's a closer look at the latest sports team to accept SHIB.
São Paulo FC To Accept SHIB
In an June 2 announcement, the São Paulo Fan Partner page confirmed it would accept cryptocurrencies via its sponsor, Bitso.
"In partnership with Bitso, the official sponsor of São Paulo FC, fans can now buy tickets for games at Morumbi by paying in cryptocurrency," it announced on Twitter. "Isn't that awesome?"
Following the announcement, one SHIB holder followed up and confirmed via a Direct Message with the Fan Page account SHIB would be among those accepted by the football club.
Users will need to register as a Fan Member to pay with cryptocurrency, however.
São Paulo FC is one of the most decorated Brazilian football clubs in the nation’s history. It has won the Brazilian league title 6 times and developing players such as Kaka, Cafu, and Luis Fabiano. Its stadium, the Morumbi, can hold up to 72,000 fans.
This is just the latest in a line of companies and businesses gearing up to support Shiba Inu payments. With companies such as BitPay and NowPayments gaining traction, more places are adding support for SHIB and other cryptocurrencies. This, in a large part, is spurred on by the community demand.
This could line up with the timing of further potential partnerships between Shiba Inu and sports teams/companies. With both a potential Red Bull partnership, and maybe even a basketball collaboration in the works, the sports market may be the next target for SHIB.
Cryptocurrency continues to enter the footballing world - whether through official sponsorships by Binance and Floki Inu with Napoli and Lazio, or via the rise of fan tokens.
