NFTs associated with web3 and gaming are on the table across the Amazon marketplace.

Online retailer Amazon to jump into blockchain gaming and NFTs

According to Blockworks, Amazon will launch NFTs based on blockchain gaming and web3 in Spring 2023. Amazon consumers will be able to play blockchain-based games on Amazon and win free NFTs in the process.

An Anonymous source for Blockworks said:

We knew it was possible. But now it seems like it’s really happening. That’s going to affect the existing players in the space — if they execute and do this right and are smart about it.

It appears that Amazon has been in the process of exploring blockchain technology and web3 for years.

Although Amazon Web Services (AWS) has previously assisted multiple crypto projects with data hosting, this new program will be a part of the Amazon everyone around the world uses to purchase goods online.

In 2022, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said they were open to selling NFTs on Amazon.

In a CNBC Squarkbox interview, Jassy said:

I expect that NFTs will continue to grow very significantly. We’re not probably close to adding crypto as a payment mechanism in our retail business, but I do believe over time that you’ll see crypto become bigger and—it’s possible.

Backlash is to be expected, but Amazon does not appear to be concerned about any controversies that may arise as a result of the company's decision to enter the NFT market.
