Struggling to log into your new Xbox Series S or X console for the first time? You're not alone.
Microsoft has confirmed that an issue with Xbox Live is preventing players from being able to create new Gamertags and profiles.

Unfortunately, it looks as though the issue is still being worked on at the time of writing (3 PM on December 2), with some players claiming other issues.
Many have noted that they are having issues making purchases, importing profiles from an Xbox 360, while some have speculated that the issue is causing dropped connections in games.
According to the Xbox Status page, "you may have trouble creating a new Xbox profile right now".

Interestingly, the profile creation problem appears to be affecting not just Microsoft's latest consoles, but the Xbox app on Windows, Xbox One consoles, cloud gaming, Android and Apple devices, and even Xbox 360.
