Xbox App On iOS Gets A Huge Update Before Series X Launch, Finally Allows Remote Play

Xbox Series X is under a month away, and Microsoft has just released a sizeable update to the iOS companion app that allows remote play from Xbox One and Series S/X consoles.

While these features have been available on Android for a while, it's nice to see them finally make the jump to iOS (and iPadOS).

It's worth noting, though, that this doesn't mean Cloud Gaming has come to the platform.

Unfortunately, Microsoft and Apple still haven't come to an agreement on that, meaning the former is currently looking into a browser-based solution.

What it does mean, though, is that you can stream your Xbox One console (and Series X/S) to your phone or tablet when on the same network.

That's not all, though, as you can now queue up downloads for your console whether you've bought them or not.

You can still use the Game Pass app for the same purpose if a game is included as part of your membership.

The app also brings in Microsoft's unified design, using the same design language as the October Xbox update, the Xbox Series S and X dashboard, and the Xbox app for Windows.

If you do pick up the Series S or Series X, you can use the app to help set up your new console, too.

Just through quick testing, the app feels a lot smoother, and also looks a lot nicer, in my opinion.

Oh, and if you're using iPadOS, it has trackpad and mouse support, too.
