PS5 Update Allows Players To Choose Platform Of Choice When Installing A Game

PS5 will now prompt users to select their platform of choice when downloading a game to the system.

A new prompt, spotted by Twitter user Tidux, has noted that a new screen will allow players to easily access either the PS4 or PS5 versions of a game.

The new prompt reads "You're about to play the PS4 version of this game. Do you want to switch to the PS5 version?"

It's a handy addition, especially because Sony's cross-generational options for installations have been confusing at best.

Many PS5 owners inadvertently downloaded PS4 versions of titles like Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, only to find that they then needed to reinstall from scratch.

Sony doesn't offer a standardised solution a la Microsoft's "Smart Delivery" initiative, which automatically downloads the most optimised version for your platform of choice.

Both platforms let developers decide how upgrades are handled, but many have opted for free upgrades.

The likes of Borderlands 3, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Destiny 2 and more have PS5 upgrades available for free.
