Sony may look to offer a Game Pass-style service for the PlayStation 5.

In an interview with Russian site TASS, Sony interactive Entertainment CEO noted that “there is actually news to come, but just not today."

Speaking on the subject of competition, Ryan noted that “[Console wars] is not a term I ever use or actually like."

“For me, it’s great that there’s competition. I think it makes us work harder. It avoids us getting complacent. It’s great that the consumer has a choice. I think that’s wonderful.”

With the conversation shifting to Game Pass, Microsoft's all-you-can-play subscription, Ryan hinted at some kind of update soon.

“There is actually news to come, but just not today,” he said. “We have PlayStation Now which is our subscription service, and that is available in a number of markets.”

Sony had previously suggested that the subscription model is "unsustainable" – something rivals Microsoft insist is not the case.

PS5 owners can enjoy the PlayStation Plus collection, which offers a wealth of first and third-party titles including the likes of God Of War, Monster Hunter World, and Bloodborne.

As Ryan notes, competition is incredibly valuable in the industry, and given the value proposition of Game Pass (which now includes EA Play and Disney Plus), it would be fair to say that Sony could offer something equally impressive.
