According to a report by VGC, COD 2021 will not be powered with a brand-new engine. The article confirms that Sledgehammer Games will be using the IW8 engine to power WWII: Vanguard.

The IW8 engine is the newest engine to power a Call of Duty title. It debuted with the 2019 reboot of the Modern Warfare series and is also used to run the franchise’s immensely popular battle royale, Warzone.

Rather than a completely new engine being used, WWII: Vanguard will be using the engine armed with the latest technology in order to develop the game.

This news is certainly positive for those that aren’t fans of Treyarch’s engine used to run Black Ops Cold War. Many players saw Cold War as a step back in comparison to 2019s Modern Warfare and with the IW8 engine being used for WWII: Vanguard, there’s a chance that the game could be incredible despite the return to World War 2 again.
