Could COD 2021 use a new engine?
Call of Duty: Vanguard has been marred with rumours that it may not be in a great spot.
Where Cold War opted to modify the Modern Warfare engine, it's unlikely that COD 2021 will be able to do the same.
With Warzone being the connection between the different Call of Duty games and their universes, it makes sense to stick with the existing engine.
But will it actually be the same or will it be different?
What Engine Will Call of Duty: Vanguard Use?
The IW8 engine is the newest engine to power a Call of Duty title. It debuted with the 2019 reboot of the Modern Warfare series and is also used to run the franchise’s immensely popular battle royale, Warzone.
In contrast, Cold War used a new engine, well at least it wasn't a direct copy of the IW8 engine.
Treyarch’s Dan Bunting confirmed that Cold War and Modern Warfare used the same ‘underlying technology,’ but the engine and technology being used in Black Ops Cold War was created back in 2015.
It means that the engine in use is more closer to the Black Ops 3 engine. Bunting says the team worked hard to revamp and rebuild a lot of their tools starting with Black Ops 3 - they claim Black Ops Cold War showcases the power of what they were able to do
