Call of Duty developer Sledgehammer Games has announced it has continued its global expansion by launching a brand-new studio located in the United Kingdom. The studio will be located in Guildford, with several roles opening up in numerous departments including animation, design, and audio.

The expansion marks the developer's second expansion in 2021, after opening up a studio in Toronto earlier in the year. According to a release, the Guildford studio will be joining forces with Sledgehammer's other studios in Melbourne and Toronto to provide support for the post-launch content seasons that will be arriving in Call of Duty: Vanguard in 2021 and 2022.

"I'm just really excited to bring our studio brand to the UK, along with the incredible franchise we get to work on," stated Andy Wilson, Chief Operating Officer at Sledgehammer Games. "It's another opportunity to do our own small part to grow the industry, in a place where there's a huge number of talented developers."

Wilson also revealed that the Guildford studio will be intending to build partnerships with schools and universities in the surrounding area in order to cultivate the next generation of talent. "It's about providing pathways for those who are looking to get in," he added.

Liz Wyle, General Manager of Sledgehammer Games Guildford, also commented on the expansion:

“Guildford has a long history of video game development, and as a result, there's a lot of top-tier talent and an existing game dev community there and in the surrounding towns. We're also an easy reverse commute in from London, which has a huge talent pool.”

In August, a report by VGC revealed that all of Activision's core studios were working on the Call of Duty franchise in some capacity, whether it's assisting the development of Warzone, assisting with the release of Vanguard, or working on Call of Duty 2022, rumoured to be a sequel to 2019's hugely successful reboot of the Modern Warfare series.
