Infinity Ward Leading Modern Warfare II Development

Although Season 2 for Call of Duty Vanguard is on the horizon, the attention of the community has already turned to the next release in the shooter franchise.

Despite a lack of official information, numerous leaks have all but confirmed Call of Duty 2022 will be Modern Warfare II, a sequel to 2019's hugely popular Modern Warfare reboot.

On February 3, Activision Blizzard revealed that Infinity Ward is leading the development of the new release rumoured to launch in October due to disappointing sales figures generated by Vanguard.

The news comes after the publisher unveiled its 2021 financial results that confirmed "Call of Duty net bookings on console and PC declined year-over-year in the fourth quarter, reflecting on lower premium sales for Call of Duty: Vanguard."

The results also confirmed the legendary Modern Warfare studio would spearhead development for Modern Warfare II alongside a new "Warzone experience" widely believed to be Warzone 2.

Modern Warfare II Reveal Date

Hype surrounding the next title has already surpassed that of Vanguard but fans will have to wait a while before they get a first look at Infinity Ward's latest offering. According to notable leaker 'RalphsValve', Modern Warfare II's official reveal will take place on May 30.

With Infinity Ward responsible for the recent revival of the COD franchise, it will be interesting to see what the developer has in store after a disappointing showing from Vanguard.
