Following the worldwide reveal of Modern Warfare 2 on June 8, Infinity Ward continues to share information on the new era of the Call of Duty franchise.

The single-player campaign sees the return of Task Force 141 taking on Al Qatala once again. As fans of the series discover everything ranging from the campaign characters to information on multiplayer, Infinity Ward has given players the first look at Operation Dark Water, one of several missions.

The mission begins with the player heading to an oil rig in a bid to secure the controls for a missile heading to the United States.

Modern Warfare 2 Campaign First Look

During the opening night of Summer Games Fest, the seven-minute trailer demonstrates the IW9 engine in action as the 141 skim across the seas to complete the task.

The audio overhaul is some of the best in the entire franchise, with the thumping shotgun shells featuring immense depth to emphasise the power of the new weaponry.

As the player ducks and dives out of the way of shipping containers moving around the deck, the trailer reveals the return of weapon mounting alongside the presence of interactive doors.

After finding the crate, the squad opens it to see no missile controller much to their surprise. As they work their way towards a locked door, the player plants a remote charge on the door which explodes. The screen fades to black leaving fans wondering what happens next.

Based on the trailer, it's clear to see the significant audio improvements made by Infinity Ward. In addition, the gunplay looks crisp with plenty of trigger discipline required in order to control the recoil. As an initial demo, it appears Infinity Ward is ticking all the right boxes so far.
