Battlefield 2042 Will Include Battlefield Portal
All assets have been remade within Battlefield 2042's updated engine, which also allows for the addition of destruction on Battlefield 1942's maps that previously didn't support it.
As for the maps included, each of the three previous games includes two maps.
- Battlefield 1942 is represented by El Alamein and Battle of the Bulge
- Battlefield 3's maps are Caspian Border and Noshahr Canals
- Battlefield Bad Company 2's maps are Arica Harbor and Valparaiso
The mode will also enable up to 128-players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, as well as PCs, and uses a web-based interface to construct match types using an impressive number of variables.
In an early preview, Senior Design Director Justin Wiebe walked us through the creation of a Snipers vs Shotguns match. Players can tweak team construction, load-outs, which game players can choose weapons from, and more.
This means, in theory, that creators can pit WWII snipers against an army of robotic dogs from Battlefield 2042, with more granular customisation allowing for rulesets such as triggering a heal on player kill.
According to Ripple Effect, there are over 40 weapons and 30 gadgets that can be used.
The same also applies to vehicles, meaning you can send a fighter jet on a bombing run against a tank from 1942. There are over 40 weapons, too.
As for incentives, the mode will offer a shared progression system to ensure XP is earned throughout all custom modes.
Players can also jump into popular modes, too, as shared by the Battlefield community, while Battlefield staples like Rush and Conquest are available with all available options, too.
