It feels like an age since the Dallas Empire were crowned the inaugural champions of the Call of Duty League (CDL).
Since the conclusion of the Modern Warfare season, the Call of Duty esports landscape has undergone significant changes.
Along with the return of 100 Thieves and numerous roster changes, Call of Duty esports is returning to a 4v4 team structure for the first time in two years and is making the transition to PC after over a decade of console competition.
After one of the longest off-seasons, the CDL is preparing to come back with a bang and has revealed when the action will get underway on Black Ops Cold war.
CDL 2021 Start Date
The 2021 season will begin on February 11th and will see the Atlanta FaZe franchise host the first Home Series of the season.
Before the regular season gets underway, the CDL has also unveiled a pre-season broadcast named the ‘Call of Duty League Kickoff Classic.’
The broadcast will celebrate the first anniversary of the Call of Duty League, with fans having the ability to select the opponents of the teams that finished in the top three during the regular season of competition.
- Option 1: Dallas Empire v New York Subliners, Paris Legion, or the London Royal Ravens.
- Option 2: Atlanta FaZe v Los Angeles Guerrillas, Florida Mutineers or Seattle Surge.
- Option 3: OpTic Chicago v Los Angeles Thieves, Minnesota ROKKR, or Toronto Ultra.
The team that receives the highest number of votes will play.
Atlanta Home Series
Kicking off the regular season is the Atlanta Home Series.
Starting on February 11th, the teams will begin their season campaign as action returns.
During the Kickoff Classic show, a "snake draft format that enables teams to select the team that will be placed in the group of their rivals" will take place. For example, the Dallas Empire will be able to select which team Atlanta plays in Group B. This will continue for the rest of the teams based on the placements from last season.
