Sea of Thieves is set for a big 2021, as the game switches to seasonal content as opposed to monthly tweaks and updates.
While the game's upcoming Season 1 is still somewhat of an unknown quantity, there's plenty we do know about what's coming as part of the new release cadence.
Here's what to expect and when.

Sea Of Thieves Season 1 Release Date
Season 1 doesn't have a launch date as yet, but we do know it's slated for a January maiden voyage.
We'll add the date here as soon as we hear!
Seasons will last for around three months.
Sea Of Thieves Season 1 Content
What's included in the new Battle Pass, you ask?
Seasons will offer 100 progress levels that unlock character and ship cosmetics, pirate legends, and a new series of Pirate Trials. New goals will help players climb the ladder quickly, even in shorter play sessions.
As you'd expect, there's a premium version, too – the Plunder Pass. This will offer discounts on the Pirate Emporium storefront, as well as exclusive items.
Players can also expect continued quality of life improvements.
Merchant Alliance Trading Company
Merchant Alliance Trading Company is arguably the most unpopular of the game's factions, and it's getting some love with Season 1.
A new Voyage type will have players acting as detectives in order to find lost ships and their cargo.
Sea Of Thieves Season 1 Price
Season 1, and the base battle pass, will be free to all Sea of Thieves players – including those on Game Pass.
Unfortunately, we don't know how much the Plunder Pass will be yet, but we'll be sure to let you know.
In lieu of a Season 1 trailer, we do have a lengthy developer diary video to explain the changes.
