If you play Overwatch regularly, you know that events are a common aspect of the game.
An example of this would be the recent Winter Wonderland!
The team is dedicated to celebrating a variety of different seasonal events.
Here's everything we know about 2021's Lunar New Year event in Overwatch including events/modes, skins, map changes and more.
Overwatch Lunar New Year 2021
We're finally in the new year and with that comes the Lunar New Year event.
This seasonal event is all about the Chinese New Year, themed around Asian culture and festivals.
The event brings new, map reskins and some gorgeous skins.
As with previous events items like skins, emotes, voice lines and sprays can be found in Lunar loot boxes.
This year will bring us the Year of the Ox.
You can take a look at the previous start end time for the Lunar New Year event below.
- Lunar New Year 2017 (Year of the Rooster) started on 24 January, 2017, and ended on 13 February, 2017.
- Lunar New Year 2018 (Year of the Dog) started on 8 February, 2018, and ended on 6 March, 2018.
- Lunar New Year 2019 (Year of the Pig) started on 24 January, 2019, and ended on 18 February, 2019
- Lunar New Year 2020 (Year of the Rat) started on 16 January, 2020, and ended on 5 February, 2020
Going off of previous dates we can assume the event will begin this month in January.
Lunar New Year should come to the game in the second half of the month.
Most events go live on a Tuesday making the 19th or 26th our best bet so far!
Capture The Flag Blitz
Last year we were able to play the CTF Blitz mode.
Described on the 2020 Lunar New Year page, "The stakes have been raised in this new way to play Capture the Flag.
With both teams’ flags much closer together, six captures are now needed to win the match instead of the traditional three.
Launch an all-out offensive against the enemy to snatch their flag as many times as possible—may fortune favor your team!"
We should see something similar this year unless Blizzard decided to switch things up!
In Lunar New Year 2020 we saw many heroes get new skins.
Unfortunately, we don't yet know who will be lucky enough this year to get something new and shiny.
Here's a list of the heroes that got some last year:
- Moira (Mask Dance)
- Sombra (Face Changer)
- Brigitte (Opera)
- Lucio (Samul Nori)
- Winston (Ancient Chinese Bronze)
- Doomfist (Monk)
- Wrecking Ball (Papercutting)
We will be updating this piece as more information is revealed so be sure to check back.
