Destiny 2 Director Discusses Class Changes and Vaulted Supers

Don't expect changes soon, but there's definitely potential for them.

Beyond Light is here, and while Stasis has been a thorn in the side of PvP players, the customisable aspects of the subclass are undoubtedly a big step in the right direction for MMO/shooter.

In an interview with Polygon, director Luke Smith discussed the potential for other classes to be reworked to allow for similar customisation.

Destiny 2 Director Discusses Class Changes and Vaulted Supers

"I can totally imagine [it] in ‘Luke Fantasyland,’" Smith explained.

"You know, all the Supers using the same system [as Stasis], that sounds awesome. But also the Supers that we have in the game would be an edited list. It would be something that’s edited toward more identity than what we have today."

The idea of editing current Super abilities has caused fans some concern, especially following the sizeable content vaulting process that took place with Beyond Light.

With four planetary destinations being removed, Destiny fans began to wonder if the same was likely for Supers and even subclasses.

Thankfully, Smith took to the game's subreddit to assuage those concerns.

"On a long enough time horizon, it sure would be sweet to have all of the supers in Destiny use the same system," he notes.

"The Stasis system is very cool and we like it. It's got more agency, flexibility, and freedom than the Destiny 2 and Forsaken system with their interlocked perks. Feels more like D1 in terms of agency, I like that much more."

"From a thematic/creative perspective, it sure would be sweet if the classes had strong gameplay identities instead of some of the homogeny that has steadily emerged. No plans to look at class homogeny right now. There are many other things to focus on."

It sounds like Bungie is definitely interested in exploring more customisable subclasses, but that it won't be anytime soon.

It also seems as though classes could be reworked to allow for more defined roles, or "strong gameplay identities".
