Street Fighter V may have grown into one of the most complete fighters available today, but fans will undoubtedly be looking towards a sixth instalment.
After all, the game did launch in early 2016, and while seasonal content has added plenty of characters, it's time for something new.
A recent leak has shed plenty of light on a new title in the franchise, so here's all we know.
Street Fighter 6 Release Date and Platforms
According to the leaks, the game is codenamed CAPCOM 6 - which makes sense.
It's also suggested that the game has been in testing, although as yet we're unlikely to hear anything for a while.
In fact, a new email that surfaced in the leak suggests that not only is the game allegedly coming to PC and PS5, but also Xbox Series S and Series X, too.
Other platforms listed are PS4 and Xbox One, suggesting a cross-generation release.
Many had expected the game to launch in 2021 after it was confirmed that the Capcom Cup 2020 champion wouldn't automatically qualify for the 2021 competition.
This was shot down somewhat by prolific Capcom leaker Dusk Golem:
(1/2)As Capcom is trending for Street Fighter stuff, though I'm not really a Street Fighter fan, I can mention I know the reason for the unexpected SF5 season pass. The most basic gist of it is SF6 was supposed to release next year, but it was not received well internally or with— AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem (@AestheticGamer1) August 5, 2020
(2/3) testers, there's this team mechanic the game was too focused on, the director (who was Ino) got demoted again & someone else put in charge to "fix" SF6 with an additional year in dev, and the new season pass is to buy time for that.— AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem (@AestheticGamer1) August 5, 2020
There's a bit more to it, but I know
(3/3) talking about this stuff makes people to ask you about it, and really I don't care that much about fighting games (though my brother loves them). For what it's worth, I've heard the extra year & new director/fixes & direction they've taken it have been doing wonders.— AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem (@AestheticGamer1) August 5, 2020
Yoshinori Ono had been at Capcom since the early nineties, so seeing him move on from the company and leave Street Fighter 6 (a franchise he's been a producer on since 1998) is undoubtedly a surprise.
Later tweets suggested that Capcom's corporate officer, Midori Yuasa, is now leading the project.
IGN.com has verified the leaks, with a schedule showing that Street Fighter 6 is expected in Q3 of 2022, with a Super Street Fighter 6 version following in Q4 2023.
Finally, it looks like an Ultra Street Fighter 6 version is expected in Q4 2024.
IGN does note that while sources confirmed the game is in development, this timeline could be out of date.
Street Fighter 6 Price
Expect the game to be fully priced, although what that could mean in the context of a new console generation is anyone's guess.
With titles expected to receive a price hike, Capcom is apparently opting for a "case by case" approach.
Street Fighter 6 Characters
Street Fighter 5 launched with 16 characters, but following five different seasons of content, actually reached more than 40.
Whether all of those characters would make the jump to Street Fighter 6 is anyone's guess, but it would be fair to assume that the usual suspects like Chun-Li, Dhalsim, Ken, M. Bison and, of course, Ryu will make the jump.
