Falling Guillotine nerf coming to Destiny 2

Say goodbye to your favorite big-ass sword.

It had to happen sooner or later. That ginormous, glowing beast was too good for this or any world. It’s been my go-to heavy weapon since I first unlocked it.

Naturally, Bungie’s saying no more.

“Falling Guillotine will continue to be slightly above average,” the latest patch notes explain. “Just not to the extent that it is now.”

The Falling Guillotine nerf is but one of a number of big weapon-related changes coming in year four of Destiny 2 — which technically kicked off last month, since D2 launched in September of 2017.

A number of “adaptive” auto rifles are being given a slight nerf. It sounds like snipers will be slightly less dominant, or at least harder to use in Beyond Light.

Some hand cannons are getting nerfed, while others should be a lot better due to a higher rate of fire.

Rocket launchers, which haven’t really been a big deal for much of Destiny 2, will get a buff to their ammo reserves. That should be interesting, especially in Crucible.

“Some of these changes look pretty hefty, and we’re looking forward to seeing your reactions,” Bungie says.

“When first hearing that ‘aggressive’ hand cannons would be shifted to 120 RPM, I wondered if it would be enough to push them into the hands of my Guardian. I can safely say, after quite a few playtests, I have a bunch of new favorite hand cannons that have been waiting for their time to shine.”

The special “Adept” variants are returning to Trials of Osiris, as well. Old-school Destiny players will remember those as the rare primary weapons that actually had elemental damage types assigned to them.

“Beginning in Beyond Light, all existing Trials weapons have Adept versions. Our intent is for all new Trials weapons to have an Adept version in the future, with their infusion caps matching the Season they were introduced in,” the patch notes say.

“For our first round of Adepts, their infusion caps will be set to that of Season of the Worthy. Additionally, we will be introducing Adept weapon mods into the sandbox in Beyond Light, which can only be applied to Adept weaponry.”

It’s hard to know how some of this stuff will affect different parts of the game, or the Crucible meta, until you get your hands on different weapons and start experimenting.

But it’ll be nice to see some new variety introduced, even as old favorites fall by the wayside.
