Destiny 2 Power Level Guide: How To Level Up Fast

Here's how to climb to the power level hard cap.

Beyond Light will add plenty of content for Guardians to enjoy, and it'll get a boosted Power Level cap, too.

Wondering what that ever-growing number is all about? Luckily for you, we've put together this guide.

Destiny 2 Power Level Guide

Formerly known as Light Level in the first game, Power Level is a way to gate content in Destiny 2.

Essentially, the higher your Power Level, the more damage you're able to take and dish out, meaning you can play more challenging missions, be that Strikes, Trials of Osiris, or Raids.

The number is essentially an average of all of your equipped gear. So that's the following:

  • Primary weapon
  • Secondary weapon
  • Heavy weapon
  • Head armour
  • Arm armour
  • Torso armour
  • Leg armour
  • Class item

It can also be boosted by your Seasonal Artefact.

Destiny 2 offers two types of Power Level cap, the "soft" cap and "hard" cap.

Beyond Light will increase the "Soft" cap to 1200.

That sounds high, but every player starts at 750. Legendary (purple) gear will get you to 1200, and then you'll need "Powerful" gear to hit the "Hard" cap of 1250.

This can be earned by completing the following:

  • Earning Tower Vendor Engrams in Crucible, Gambit, Vanguard or for the Gunsmith
  • Complete three Nightfall strikes
  • Earn Clan Engrams
  • Complete the Flashpoint
  • Nightmare Hunts
  • Trials of Osiris (3 or 5 wins)
  • Weekly Story Mission

In order to reach the Pinnacle cap of 1260, however, you'll need to earn Pinnacle gear.

  • Complete dungeons
  • 7 Trials of Osiris Wins
  • Score 100k points in a Nightfall: The Ordeal strike
  • Complete the Garden of Salvation raid
  • Complete Iron Banner bounties
  • Nightmare Hunts (Master difficulty)
  • Weekly activity playlists (Crucible, Strike and Gambit)

The Destiny Power Level has jumped up ever higher with each expansion.

While it kicked off with a max level of 300, it's grown in increments until the game's base power level was 750 for new players.
