Has Breath of The Wild 2 Been Delayed Or Cancelled?

Say it ain't so...

While a lot of attention is focused on Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, many Zelda fans haven't forgotten about Breath of the Wild 2.

The sequel to one of the greatest entries in the franchise is hotly anticipated and so far we've heard nothing about its release.

Obviously, Breath of the Wild 2 was announced pre-COVID 19, so players are worried that maybe the sequel has been delayed or even worse CANCELLED.

Is that why Age of Calamity has started to become the centre of Nintendo's attention?

Has Breath Of The Wild 2 Been Cancelled?

We can safely say that no, Breath of the Wild 2 has not been cancelled.

While Age of Calamity has been grabbing the headlines for Zelda, the next major title in the franchise has not been forgotten.

You may have missed Zelda overseer Eiji Aonuma's comments around the announcement of the new Hyrule Warriors title.

Which you'd be forgiven for, as although Hyrule Warriors is a Zelda title and Age of Calamity is closely related to Breath of the Wild, it's a totally different style of game; so it may not peak your interest.

Aonuma calmed the worries of Zelda fans by addressing the many queries surrounding Breath of the Wild 2:

“Regarding the sequel, in order to make the vast world you enjoyed exploring in the original game even more impressive, the team is working hard on its development – so you’ll have to wait a bit longer before we can provide more updates.”

There's no doubt the plans for this game are going to be huge and with COVID-19 impacting all developers and publishers around the world, it's easy to see how this has no doubt impacted the development for a Switch sequel.

Breath of the Wild took an entire console generation to create and while we expect the sequel to be much shorter, considering it's reusing a lot of assets, it's clearly got a lot more to it than we anticipated.

The logical answer is that the game has been delayed further than originally anticipated.

The game was originally touted as a huge DLC that needed its own game due to how many great ideas they actually had.

Time will tell what the new game has for us and just how original of a game it will be.
