Insomniac is on another level.

Look, Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018) was a masterpiece. Miles Morales is a fantastic character, and a spinoff game that builds on Miles’s story from the first Spidey game is already a pretty easy sell. But this is important — a literal game changer.

As revealed in a new video upload from Game Informer, teenage Harlem resident Miles Morales is friends with a cat.

Moreover, we’re pleased to report that the cat can accompany Miles on his Spider-Man exploits in a backpack, sometimes wearing a vigilante mask of his own. The mask does, in fact, have holes in the top for his furry little cat ears. It’s wild.

“Ever wonder what the purrfect companion to your friendly neighborhood wall-crawler would look like?” the video’s description reads. “Join us for the exclusive look at Spider-Cat in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and how our new feline friend makes for more than just a fun side quest.”

In the game’s story, the cat’s name is originally Spider-Man, and he belongs to the owner of a small grocery store. It appears that, while wearing a particular suit with a hoodie-and-backpack combo, Spider-Cat can assist Miles in combat.

Created by cartoonist Skottie Young, Spider-Cat’s origins actually date back to a comic book from 2011. The character first showed up in Spider-Island: I Love New York City #1, in a short story called “Nine Lives.”

Anyone can wear the mask. ’Nuff said.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales suits detailed

The above is just one of many new suits coming to Insomniac’s sequel. If you want to take a look at the others, we’ve pulled together a complete list of all the suits confirmed for Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

So far, the developer’s only discussed five suits in all, including the Spider-Cat hoodie-and-backpack getup revealed on Wednesday.

But the first game had as many as 42 costumes, given the three DLC expansions and various movie promotions, so there’s no doubt the Miles Morales game will also have plenty of new suits and gadgets to play around with.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will reportedly run in 4K at up to 60 frames per second, or 30 fps with ray tracing, without any noticeable load times on PS5. The game hits PS4 and PlayStation 5 on November 12.
