Xbox Might Add More Backwards Compatible Titles Soon - UPDATED

More classics may be coming to the next-gen consoles.

Updated 13th October:

In a new blog post focused on Backwards Compatibility, Jason Ronald, Director of Program Management for Xbox Series X has confirmed that the team are looking into new backward compatible titles.

"The team also continues to listen to feedback from the community on additional titles you would like to see added to the compatibility program. Resurrecting titles from history often presents a complex mix of technical and licensing challenges, but the team is committed to doing everything we can to continue to preserve our collective gaming legacy."

Here's hoping that some titles that slipped the net on Xbox One's backward compatibility options make an appearance on the Xbox Series S and Series X.

Original Story Follows:

Everyone loves taking a trip down memory lane playing some classic games from the older consoles.

From Star War Battlefront to the original Halo games, they're still as entertaining as they were back then.

But it's even better when you can play them on the current generation of consoles.

The Xbox Series X and S will release with a series of backwards compatible games.

However, these will only be the titles that already featured on the Xbox One.

At least that's what we thought until a recent comment was made by a director at Microsoft.

More Backwards Compatible Titles For Next-Gen

Although there are already hundreds of backwards compatible games coming to the Xbox Series X and S.

They were all already present on the Xbox One.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Xbox's director of program management Jason Ronald stated Xbox is investigating adding new backwards compatible titles to the Xbox.

Check out his statement below:

t's definitely something that we're looking into, and I'll say 'Never say never. But I will also say some of these games were designed before the idea of generational compatibility came into play. So, in some cases, we've run into some technical challenges, and in other cases, there's licensing challenges and whatnot. So, the team's definitely looking into it. I can't commit to anything here, but it's definitely something top of mind for us and something that we are investigating.

Although this isn't confirmation we'll be receiving more backwards compatible titles, it certainly gives us hope for the future.

It's obviously something Microsoft is looking into and is interested in implementing.

However, as Ronald states, it's not as simple as adding a game to the Xbox catalogue.

There are multiple challenges and hurdles with each individual title.

Let's hope Microsft can navigate these challenges and add some of the classics we're missing to their next-gen console.
