Minecraft Warden: Update 1.17 New Caves & Cliffs Mob Explained

Minecraft just got a lot scarier with The Warden in update 1.17.

The Minecraft Live event revealed a load of new things coming to Minecraft in the Caves and Cliffs update.

The update will be releasing some time in summer 2021.

We got to see a lot of interesting features but the one thing that caught my eye was The Warden.

I didn't need more reasons to get jump scared but I guess Mojang had different ideas.

Here's everything we know about the newest mob in Minecraft.

The Warden

The Warden can be found in some of the deepest layers of the earth in caves.

It has adapted to a world without light and so will use its hearing to hunt rather than sight.

The Warden can detect sound in any direction.

As well as the above, it can suck all light out of its surrounding area, causing temporary blindness.

You should be able to sneak past The Warden if you don't feel up for a battle, just don't run!

The official Minecraft Twitter released a short clip showcasing The Warden, see below.

In terms of the damage the new mob can do, it can bring you down by six and a half hearts, that's while wearing full netherite gear.

Meaning it only takes two hits to be defeated by this beast in the best gear you can get.

Many have been speculating it has around 100 hearts based off of some of the videos shared but could be more, akin to The Wither or the Ender Dragon.

The above video shows just how little damage a bow and netherite sword can do to this beast.

The devs stated that they want players to experience the fear of their first night in-game.

Well, they've succeeded in my case.

We can't say for sure when we'll get to battle against The Warden but it's predicted to be sometime in summer 2021.

Until then I'll continue to get destroyed by The Wither.

If we find out anything more we'll update this space!
