More questions than answers.

Monster Hunter Stories 2, Capcom's second entry in the RPG-centric spinoff of the main action franchise, is due out in 2021.

In a series of interviews with Japanese publications, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto revealed new information on the game's battle system and hinted at the return of PvP combat.

Speaking to Famitsu, Tsujimoto noted that the battle system will be elevated, and suggested that players should look forward to an upcoming announcement when pressed about PvP.

In an interview with Game Watch Impress, he noted that the first game had an impressive reception from fans and that players have wanted a sequel for some time, while also noting that the second game would skew less towards younger players and more towards a broader appeal.

As you can imagine, there are more monsters to recruit this time around, while also teasing crossover content for players also picking up Monster Hunter: Rise, which was announced in the same Nintendo Direct.

Finally, when speaking to 4Gamer, it was revealed that Monster Hunter Stories 2 will offer a self-contained narrative, meaning players don't have to be familiar with the first game's story, although Tsujimoto was coy on whether characters from the first game would return.

More information around the battle system is expected soon, too.

Unlike the more traditional Monster Hunter titles that allow players to hunt monsters and turn them into fancy armour, the Stories sub-franchise lets players recruit monsters and customise their abilities.

The first game launched on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2016 in Japan, before coming to other territories in 2017, as well as eventually landing on Android and iOS devices.
