Ready For Another Round?

It's been a little over five months since the release of Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath, NetherRealm's expansion which gave fans a chunky new storyline and three new characters.

But naturally, MK11 fans are hungry for more.

It seems that the original roster, Kombat Pack DLC and Aftermath expansion characters are just not enough.

Thankfully, the good news is that it seems pretty likely that NetherRealm is not yet done with Mortal Kombat 11.

Injustice 3 certainly isn't on the cards yet, so why not bring more content to the incredibly popular fighting game in the meantime?

We've tried to pull everything we know about the next big update to the game in this handy hub. Consider it a guide to bookmark and check in on for absolutely everything you need to know. So without further ado, let's crack on!

Mortal Kombat 11 - Kombat Pack 2 or Kombat Pack 3?

Let's get this particular elephant in the room out the way first. Is the next DLC going to count as Kombat Pack 2 or Kombat Pack 3?

It's not entirely clear. We were under the impression that Kombat Pack 1 was comprised of the previously released six DLC characters. For the sake of reference, that included Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Terminator, Sindel, Spawn, and Joker.

Which suggests the Aftermath DLC was an expansion on its own including Fujin, Sheeva and Robocop.

From this, we imagined the next DLC update would be Kombat Pack 2. But it seems most fans believe we're technically due Kombat Pack 3 (which is what we're going to lead with).

Until anything is officially announced, we don't think NetherRealm will make it any clearer.

So for now, just take it as granted that if you read anything related to Kombat Pack 2 or 3, it's likely talking about the same thing. You've not 'missed' anything, per se.

It's just not exactly clear. Come'on NetherRealm, do everyone a solid and clear it up for us, will you?

Mortal Kombat 11 - Kombat Pack 3 Release Date

At the time of writing, with nothing outright announced by NetherRealm, it's impossible to put any markers down for when the new updates could release.

If we were going out on a limb, we'd wager anything new might be due to release in and around the launch of new next-gen consoles.

If only to take advantage of those shiny new systems and give the publisher another reason to shout about their incredible game in a bid to shift more copies.

Mortal Kombat 11 - Kombat Pack 3 News Announcement

It looks like Mortal Kombat 11 DLC could be coming soon - as NetherRealm prepare to reveal some exciting news very soon.

Ed Boon dropped the news on Monday 5 September on Twitter (seen below).

Granted, this could just be about the game getting a next-gen overhaul for PS5 and Xbox Series X.

But who knows, maybe NetherRealm plans to introduce more DLC and characters too.

Mortal Kombat 11 - Kombat Pack 3 Annoucement Rumours

Now, we know that Ed Boon does have a tendency to tease the fanbase, and not everything is always as it seems.

But it would appear as though something news related could be coming this September.

It all stems from an exchange on Twitter between a fan and Boon directly.

Writing at the start of September, one fan told Boon "September is good time for some good news," to which Boon replied, "Yes it is.... hold on tight!" with a thumbs up emoji to seal the deal.

As we mentioned, it wouldn't be the first time Ed Boon has lead fans a merry dance, but a series of follow up teasers/cryptic clues have sowed the seeds that this could be legit.

Coupled with Boon's past statements that the team "ain't done" with the game, in fact, he said they're "Not even klose..." it does seem like we've got more content coming soon.

Mortal Kombat 11 - Kombat Pack 3 Rumours

As we mention, Boon has recently been on a Twitter crusade teasing 'something'. That's the only explanation. That or lockdown has finally got to him.

The clues posted so far read:

  1. "Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see."
  2. "Second Klue is this movie trailer, but I can tell you it's not Freddy Krueger." along with the trailer for Nightmare on Elm Street. Seemingly something to do with 1984 then.
  3. "Seriously #6"
  4. "6 degrees...." along with a picture of the character Kobra. Although Boon did eventually disconfirm that Kobra was the intended new character.
  5. The only other intel we have comes from a tweet Boon sent which suggests the clues are not for one character, but several.

"Mr. Boon, are all the klues leading to one character or every klue is for different characters?" one fan asked on Twitter, to which Boon bluntly responded "Different"

    So let the speculation begin!

Mortal Kombat 11 - Kombat Pack 3 Leaks

Last week a YouTube channel called IX uploaded a video which seemed to reveal some new Mortal Kombat 11 intro lines.

On its own, that's not very exciting. But the fact it was from the actors who played Raiden, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade in the cult classic 1995 movie, made it far more interesting.

After all, who doesn't want to sound like Christopher Lambert whilst wailing on Scorpion?

To make the leak even more legit, the video was eventually blocked by publisher Warner Bros due to copyright grounds.

So it seems we can look forward to a 1995 movie cast voice pack at some point in the future.

But where it gets interesting is when you look at some past datamines and leaks. One, in particular, makes reference of these same movie character voice lines coming to the game. It also mentioned that Harley Quinn, Smoke, Takeda, Michael Myers (from the Halloween films), Mileena, and Sektor were upcoming DLC characters.

So it's possible this could be our next batch of DLC characters coming to the game.

Stay tuned for more news and leaks as they arrive.
