While we wait for a clear idea of what will come in the v15.00 patch notes, we can get an idea of what Fortnite is working on in the Fortnite Community Issues Trello board.
It's too early to tell what is being developed and fixed so far in advance, but as more issues are solved, we can get a good idea of what will come.
PS5 And Xbox Series X
With Season 5 being the first season to run on a new generation of consoles, there's a lot to be excited about.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X will offer very similar enhancements including
- 4K and 120 frames per second
- Unreal Engine 4 before moving over to Unreal Engine 5 in the middle of 2021.
- Ray Tracing likely to be added
- Available at launch
- Remains free-to-play
These ray-tracing features can be broken down into four categories:
- Reflections: these make shiny surfaces such as glass, windows and other things reflect their surroundings more accurately rather than be filled with pre-baked images
- Ambient Occlusion: this fills in objects with subtle and realistic shadows where their surfaces meet
- Global Illumination: this will allow light to play more realistically across the environment even as it changes
- Shadows: simply put, the shadows will look better
Chapter 2 Season 5 Storyline
The story in Fortnite has always been extremely bizarre and inventive. But it is undoubtedly one of the most appealing aspects of the game and what makes it one of the most interesting Battle Royale games to date.
Moving into Season 4, the story sees Thor teleport many popular Marvel heroes to the island in order to stop Galactus from consuming the map.
Recognisable Marvel locations are now appearing around the map via rifts, as well as beacons now activating to teleport other famous landmarks to the island.
Is Midas returning in the new season?
With his reappearance in Fortnitemares, it suggests that he's not done yet, despite seeing him being bested by a shark in the Season 3 trailer.
However, this Fortnitemares update seems like a convenient tack on to close an old chapter rather than something that will be seen long-term.
After activating the device, he flooded the island, causing old locations and POI’s to be completely submerged, removing Ghost locations around the map.
There is a boat around the edge of the map with posters of Ghost and Midas that could hint at his return. Perhaps the Hightower event will reveal more.
The biggest evidence that he will return is the 'Last Laugh Bundle'.
The Midas character will be returning with the Last Laugh Bundle, which features The Joke, Poison Ivy and Midas.
JOKES ON YOU: Midas isn't done yet
Not to mention that old Midas skins remain untouched.
What's immediately noticeable is that he has a new armour set, which could indicate he was wounded by the shark.
With a new season ultimately means new locations will be added, as well as old ones removed.
With Stark Labs and parts of New York crushing Frenzy Farm, what will happen after the season finishes? It's evident it's not a permanent location, so will a gigantic crater be left behind in the next season?
Current Chapter 2 Season 4 map:
New POIs added in the Season 4 update:
- Sentinel Graveyard
- Doom's Domain
- Mjolnir Crater
- The Collection
- Panther Monument
- Heroes Park
- Stark Industries
- Superstore At Holly Hedges (now called HeyBoo Store)
Pleasant Park has been the unlucky location that made way for Doom's Domain. It's unknown if this is a permanent change or not, it would be interesting to see the Fortnite map permanently impacted by the Marvel-themed season.
However, it's likely to reset back to Pleasant Park or perhaps a new location entirely.

HYPEX was able to find an interesting set of files back during June.
A new shotgun is in the works with the code name ‘Dragon Shotgun’.
This new boomstick will come in Epic and Legendary variants only and will fire four bullets.
We've also had a look at new Waffle Truck Weapons.
A New "Cosmos" Jetpack is in the works. JumpBoostPack.Cosmos.FortJumpBoostSet: Fuel = 100.0 ReserveFuel = 700.0 FuelBurnRate = 0.0 FuelRegenRate = 12.0 UpwardThrust = 600.0
An unfinished "Honey Pot" consumable got added in this update.
It's unknown what Mythic weapons will show up in Season 5 as most weapons in the current season were Marvel themed.
It is likely the new season will impact what Mythic weapons appear.
One skin players were hoping to get during Season 3 was the Agent Jonesy skin, which has yet to release.
Agent Jonesy was featured during the Season 3 cutscene after the Device event.
Most skins are released 30-60 days after they are discovered, so Agent Jonesy could arrive in the next season.
Cosmetics, Pickaxes, Gliders, Emotes, 'Brellas
New emotes tend to be added into the new season and it's almost certain that one of them will feature from Tik Tok.
During the Fortnite PS5 showcase, players noticed a number of changes to animations including the Chug Jug and flame effects.
Fans narrowed in on something in particular, what appears to be a change to elimination animations.
It's a great idea and very plausible considering Rocket League (also owned by Epic Games) have implemented this will goal explosion animations.
Fishing was first introduced at the start of Chapter 2 and appears to be getting some big love in the next season.
With the Midas Fish, which makes loot legendary, now in the game we may not see many changes in Season 5.
It's unlikely we'll get many new fishing changes after a huge overhaul last season.
The next theme in Fortnite will be Marvel Comics - focusing on Thor.
Here's a look at all past themes:
- CH1S1: No Theme
- CH1S2: Medieval
- CH1S3: Space
- CH1S4: Super Heroes
- CH1S5: Worlds Collide
- CH1S6: Halloween
- CH1S7: Winter
- CH1S8: Pirates
- CH1S9: Future
- CH1SX: Time
- CH2S1: Doppelgangers
- CH2S2: The Agency
- CH2S3: Water/Flood
- CH2S4: Marvel
What's in store for us in the future? DC may have been watching the Marvel theme unfold and may want to get involved themselves down the line. However, we already have a number of DC themed skin and items in-game; it would be tough to offer as many unique items.
Although, DC have a number of new films coming out soon including Batman, Flash and Wonder Woman; it would make for a good marketing tool.
The Hightower event could suggest a Celtic theme is on the cards.
If neither of these events happens, here are some theme suggestions we could see:
- Cops and Robbers
The Battle Pass will once again play an important part in the season and although we're unsure what it will include, we can expect plenty of skins, emotes, pickaxes and gliders.
The new Battle Pass will contain 100 tiers of content for players to complete over the span of the season.
The premium Battle Pas will cost 950 V-Bucks for the battle pass - this is about £7-8.
You can also obtain the Battle Pass Bundle, which will cost 2800 V-Bucks and rewards you with access to the first 25 tiers of the Battle Pass immediately.
Gifting the Battle Pass will cost $7.59 (without tax).
To go from Level 1 to Level 100 without buying ANY tiers you'll need to gain 7,570,000 XP total.
If you're not interested in spending money, you can complete the free battle pass; although it will come with considerably fewer rewards.
As usual, weekly challenges will arrive in-game to help players complete their Battle Pass faster, which usually lasts around 10 weeks.
There's also the secret skin, which typically has 5 weeks of challenges that players need to complete to unlock it.
Here are all of the challenges so far:
XP Coin Locations
As well as weekly challenges, XP Coins will be added weekly for players to pick up!
Unlike challenges, these only last for one week and will be replaced once the week is done.
Season 6 will arrive when the battle pass for Season 5 ends.
As you can expect, we have no information on what the new season could hold for us - we'll update this page once we know more.
