Cyberpunk 2077 Will Offer Microtransactions In Multiplayer, But Not In Single-Player Mode

Fear not, single-player fans.

Cyberpunk 2077 launches on November 17, but despite a wealth of planned DLC, the game will not offer microtransactions.

Following on from developer CD Projekt Red's earnings call, fans were concerned when CEO Adam Kiciński noted that monetisation is something the team had planned for, despite previous statements to the contrary.

Speaking about the potential for microtransactions, the company's president explained that "the goal is to design the monetisation in a way that makes people happy to spend money. I'm not trying to be cynical or hide something; it's about creating a feeling of value."

"Same with our single-player games: we want gamers to be happy while spending money on our products. The same is true for microtransactions: you can expect them, of course, and CP is a great setting for selling things, but it won't be aggressive; it won't upset gamers but it'll make them happy—that's our goal at least."

The quote has since been shared far and wide, but to offer some context, Kiciński was talking about the game's planned multiplayer mode.

Not expected until 2022, the multiplayer will essentially be its own standalone title.

The game's official Twitter account recently spoke on the subject, too, in an attempt to assuage concerns.

The game was recently demoed as part of NVIDIA's new graphics hardware showcase, with full ray-tracing capabilities. Check it out here.

The developers have also recently discussed their dissatisfaction with the game's melee combat, and have committed to making changes to it before launch.
