Apex Legends PS5 And Xbox Series X: Release Date, Crossplay, Cross-Progression, Graphicsm FPS And Everything We Know

Battling in a new generation.

Apex Legends developers have been teasing a lot of changes to the game in the coming months, and it would be foolish not to think they'll be looking toward next-gen consoles too.

The free-to-play game is currently available on Xbox One and PS4 (as well as PC and Nintendo Switch), so we're expecting it to launch on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, too.

We've rounded up all the info we've got so far into one handy article - this one.

Release Date

We expect Apex Legends to release with the launch of the next-gen consoles, although this has not been confirmed.

Xbox Series X and S will launch on the 10th November worldwide, while the PS5 will arrive in select regions on the 12th, before finally reaching the rest of the world on the 19th November.

Apex Legends will take the form of a free download from your preferred console store, and you'll be playing next-gen Apex in no time at all!

Crossplay

Crossplay is reportedly coming to Apex Legends this month, and we can only see it including next-gen consoles when they arrive.

Dataminer Shrugtal believes that new additions to the code suggest crossplay is coming with the next LTM, as they showed in this YouTube video.

The Aftermarket LTM is probably going to drop on September 15 so expect crossplay on current-gen consoles then, and next-gen crossplay upon release.

Cross-progression

Rumours of cross-progression go hand in hand with crossplay.

While we're sure that crossplay is coming thanks to official announcements, we're so far in the dark about cross-progression.

When the game released in 2019, lead producer at the time Drew McCoy told Eurogamer that cross-progression would be "impossible," but players are still keeping fingers crossed.

However, in Shrugtal's datamining video linked above, they note a piece of code indicating the swapping of "value" (AKA cosmetics) or "entitlements" (AKA starter packs) between accounts.

This won't drop with cross-play this month, but it could definitely be on the cards later in the year - possibly coinciding with the release of the next-gen consoles?

Clubs

Clubs is another feature coming later in the year - a kind of clan or guild for players to join.

This will work well with cross-play and is again expected further down the line or towards the end of the year.

This could also be a feature launching with next-gen consoles in November, but we'll know for sure nearer the time.

What Season Will We Be In?

Apex Legends Season 6 is due to end on November 10, right around when we're expecting next-gen consoles to drop.

As such, we could imagine Respawn timing the Season 7 release with the PS5 and Xbox Series X releases - and perhaps including some exclusive cosmetics if you're playing on one of the new consoles.

We don't know what next season will bring, but we've already had a lot of character development in the Season 6 comics, so it could focus on any legends.

Graphics

Few details have been mentioned regarding the graphics for Apex Legends on the new generation of consoles.

Currently, the game operates at 60 FPS, but the resolution is noticeably lower than other games.

According to a report by GamesRadar+, a job listing went out in search of a Senior Rendering Engineer to "push next-generation platforms and the PC to their limits on Apex Legends."

It looks like a graphical update is coming to Apex at some point in the future, but whether that will be available at launch is unknown.
