Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is coming on November 13th, and will be available for both current and next-generation consoles.
Here's how to do just that.
Black Ops Cold War: How To Upgrade To PS5 And Xbox Series X
As with any game these days, you'll be able to pick up Black Ops Cold War in both physical and digital formats, at least on console (it'll be a Battle.net purchase on PC).
Unfortunately, it gets a little complicated after that.
PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5
Sticking with Sony? No problem! You'll be able to put your physical PS4 disc into your PS5 and upgrade that way - although it's likely this will incur a fee, given the price difference.
If you do go down that route, you'll have to ensure the disc is in your PS5 console whenever you play. It'll also mean that you won't be able to get the digital-only PS5 without a blu-ray drive.
Xbox One to Xbox Series X
Here's where things get a little trickier, as Black Ops Cold War doesn't support Smart Delivery. Instead, you'll be able to play the current-gen version on your next-gen system through backwards compatibility.
Instead, you'll have to buy the physical version of the next-gen game, which ironically features a disc that's playable on both generations.
Thankfully, the easiest way to avoid ending up with a game that's not looking all shiny on your new console is to buy the game digitally on your current platform.
For £10/$10 more, players can pre-order the "Cross-Gen Bundle" which includes both PS4 and PS5 versions or Xbox One and Xbox Series X versions of the game.
You can also grab the Ultimate Edition for £99.99/$99.99 and get the game's first battle pass, along with some other digital bonuses.
If you're looking for the cheapest price, fear not. ShopTo has the best price around - including the cross-generation versions for less! Check out their page here.
