League Of Legends Worlds 2020: Dates, Times, Schedule, Format, Prize Pool, Teams, Tickets And Everything You Need To Know

Who will become a legend?

League of Legends World Championship is where the best of the best MOBA players duke it out, and despite the ongoing global pandemic, Tencent Esports is committed to the event going ahead.

The month-long event kicks off in September, and between now and then we'll be updating this page with absolutely everything you need to know.

Here's all the info we have so far.

Dates

The World Championship is expected to kick off on September 25 and will end on October 31.

Schedule

  • Play-in Stage: Sept. 25 – 30
  • Group Stage Round 1: Oct. 3 – 6
  • Group Stage Round 2: Oct. 8 – 11 
  • Quarterfinals: Oct. 15 – 18
  • Semifinals: Oct. 24 – 25 
  • Summoner’s Cup Finals: Oct. 31

Location

The event will be held at Pudong Soccer Stadium, in Shanghai, China.

Format

Here's the format for the competition, as per the League of Legends Gamepedia.

Play-In

  • Group Stage (Round 1)
    • 12 teams participate
    • Teams are drawn into four groups based on seeding
    • Double Round Robin
    • Matches are best of one
    • Top two teams per group advance to Round 2
  • Knockout Stage (Round 2)
    • 8 teams participate
    • 1st place teams from the group stage each face a 2nd place team
    • Matches are best of five
    • Winners advance to the Main Event

Main Event

  • Group Stage
    • 16 teams participate
    • Teams are divided into four groups
    • Double Round Robin
    • Matches are best of one
    • Top two teams from each group advance to the Knockout Stage
  • Knockout Stage
    • Single elimination bracket (drawn randomly, 1st place teams face 2nd place teams, no two teams from the same group can be placed in the same half of the bracket)
    • Matches are best of five

Prize Pool

The prize pool is yet to be announced, but we should hear soon!

Teams

We'll have the full teams lineup soon!

24 teams are invited, with 4 from China and Europe, 3 from Korea and North America, 2 from PCS, 2 from Vietnam, and 1 each from Brazil, CIS, Japan, Latin America, Oceania and Turkey.

Tickets

According to the Esports Observer, TJ Sports will now allow 6,312 people to attend the playoff matches.

They mention that tickets will free, and of course, there will be strict measures in place to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved.
