Black Ops: Activision drops another big Cold War tease

Here’s the second piece of the puzzle.

Activision’s once-secret Pawn Takes Pawn website, discovered by Call of Duty players who solved a puzzle-based ARG on Monday, has been updated.

As noticed by Charlie Intel on Tuesday, a sticky note’s been placed along the bottom of the television: a forward slash followed by “tangledweb.” Naturally, this leads to another page of the same website — one resembling a typewritten message.

It sounds like the second part of a larger puzzle (or game):

Wars are won not just on the battlefield, but behind closed doors.

Tactics. Maneuvers. Strategies.

All pieces of a complex puzzle that means the difference between life and death — conquering or being conquered.

Codes. Signals. Ciphers.

Secret communications used by enemies and allies for thousands of years.

The plot unfolding now is decades in the making. It will not be unraveled overnight.

While some battles can be won swiftly, others will take days to unfold.

You have found the first piece of many. Relish the journey. It’s all part of the game.

The spoils of victory come not to those in haste, but to those who know —

“Every battle is won before it is ever fought.”

Know your history.

What does this mean? Well, Call of Duty players are sure to figure it out in the coming hours. We’re one day closer to seeing our first glimpse of the already-pretty-weird game that is Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War.

Perhaps we’ll finally see an announcement trailer on Friday. All bets are off at this point: it’s 2020, and the only certainty is that a new Call of Duty’s on the way.
