Far Cry 6: Yara Was Inspired by Cuba

Far Cry? More like Far Cuba.

Far Cry 6 is arriving on February 18, 2021, coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Playstation 5 and PC.

Ubisoft have been talking more in-depth about what's to come in the game and more specifically what inspired the game.

The fictional country of Yara is based around Cuba, here's what we know.

How Was Yara Inspired By Cuba?

Far Cry 6 is based in an exotic location.

Yara, the country created by Ubisoft is where the story takes place, in the trailer the dictator Anton Castillo and the riots that are taking place feel similar to that of Cuba.

This is because Cuba was actually the inspiration for the culture and environment of Fary Cry 6.

Narrative director, Navid Khavari said, “We wanted to tell a story about revolution, and when you tell a story about revolution, you’re talking about guerrilla warfare,” on the Ubisoft blog.

“When you’re talking about guerrilla warfare, you go to Cuba. We were very, very lucky to be able to fly down to Cuba. I spent about a month down there with the team, circumnavigating the island. We got to meet so many amazing people and experience the music and the culture, and we also met actual former guerrillas.”

So if you got the feeling that Yara was frozen in time, with old vehicles, damaged buildings, you'd be right to think so.

“And that really was the jumping-off point, because for our island of Yara, not only did we want to tell a story of a modern guerrilla revolution, but also we want to tell a story about an island that is almost frozen in time, like a living postcard from the ‘60s that players can experience and walk through,” Khavari continued.

We can't wait to see how much depth the developers have put into the next setting in the Far Cry series and we think the one they've chosen could bring some interesting in-game experiences.
