What is ray tracing and could it be essential in Crysis Remastered?

Crysis Remastered is on its way and we think it will be a hit again.

Planned to release on the 23rd of July, sadly the game's release date has been delayed.

Find out all about ray tracing and what it could mean for Crysis Remastered.

Ray Tracing

What Is Ray Tracing?

Ray tracing is a rendering technique that produces super realistic lighting within a game.

Essentially, it can track a path of light, and then it simulates how the light interacts and changes when on a virtual object.

See here for some screenshots from Crysis Remastered using CryEngine and ray tracing.

Ray Tracing In Crysis Remastered

Can it run Crysis? A common joke between players of Crysis.

The series created by Crytek was the touchstone for future games (specifically on PC).

The developers announced that they will be using ray tracing in Crysis Remastered.

Here's what was stated on the Crytek press page:

"Crysis Remastered will focus on the original game’s single-player campaigns and is slated to contain high-quality textures and improved art assets, an HD texture pack, temporal anti-aliasing, SSDO, SVOGI, state-of-the-art depth fields, new light settings, motion blur, and parallax occlusion mapping, particle effects will also be added where applicable. Further additions such as volumetric fog and shafts of light, software-based ray tracing, and screen space reflections provide the game with a major visual upgrade."
