Fortnite's latest patch took the game down for some time, so what's changed?

Epic Games announced yesterday that the next patch for Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 would take the genre-defining game offline for a number of hours.

They made the announcement via Twitter, writing: "Hi, everyone. We have a maintenance patch requiring downtime scheduled to release on April 8. Downtime will begin at 2 AM ET (0600 UTC). We’ll provide updates both when downtime begins and ends."

Here's what's going to change, and how it will affect your matches:

When Will Fortnite Be Back Online?

When will Fortnite come back online?

Taking Fortnite offline is generally reserved for big updates, such as when we're headed into a new Season.

However, it doesn't seem like much has changed this time around, other than your usual bug fixes. The downtime only lasted a couple of hours, so you should be able to load up the game and drop into fights right now! But what did Update 2.66 even do?

Patch Notes

Fortnite v12.30.01 Patch Notes for Update 2.66.

Update 2.66 takes us into Fortnite v12.30.1, and while there are no official patch notes, we've got a rundown of the major changes:

  • Crash when changing styles for cosmetics in the Locker.
    • Epic is investigating this issue.
  • Codaxe Pickaxe Disabled.
    • Due to an issue, the pickaxe has been disabled until further notice.
  • Low-Quality PS4 Map Textures.
    • Some textures have reduced in quality since v12.30.
  • Controllers may not vibrate when the player takes damage.
    • We believe Epic has fixed this issue.
  • Grenade temporarily disabled.
    • Again due to an issue, the Grenade has been disabled. This should be temporary, so keep your eyes out for updates on this one.
  • "Pull a player or Henchman with a Harpoon Gun" Challenge not working with Henchmen.
    • An issue has found that pulling a Henchman may not trigger the Challenge. Epic seems to be working on a fix, but for now just aim for other players if you're trying to complete this challenge.
  • Visualized Audio pulses icons instead of being solid.
    • While audio will still appear from the correct direction, Visualized SFX Audio will "pulse" the direction rather than stay solid. We believe Epic is working on a fix for this issue also.

These small changes don't seem to warrant downtime, but we won't complain to Epic for fixing these issues. We're ready to jump back in and grab those Victory Royales again!
