Medal of Honor is back with its brand new virtual reality game 'Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond'.

Medal of Honor 2020 will be the first game in the franchise since 2012 and will arrive on the Oculus Quest and Rift S; unfortunately, no word on a PS5 or Xbox One X version has been confirmed. It's a first-person action game with a mix of aerial combat and ground warfare.

The video game franchise began back in 1999, creating first-person shooter games for the Sony PlayStation based on World War 2.

Medal of Honor received a reboot back in 2010 but abandoned its traditional World War 2 roots to focus on modern-day conflicts.

With Medal of Honor returning to its roots, here's everything you need to know about this exciting new game.

World Premiere Story Trailer At Gamescom 2020 - 27th August

Respawn debuted the story trailer for Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond at Gamescom's Opening Night Live.

What Is Medal of Honor: Above And Beyond?

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is a virtual reality first-person shooter, set in World War 2.

The game is developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by EA.

You will step into the boots of an agent of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in a war-torn Europe during the 1940s.

It features a deep single-player campaign that will take you back through historic events. You'll sabotage Nazi bases, stop enemy plans and aid the French resistance on land, air and sea.

With the power of the Oculus Rift, Medal of Honor hopes to give World War 2 games the justice they've always deserved.

Release Date

The game will launch on 11th December.

Trailer

Oculus Rift vs Quest

The game is coming exclusively to Oculus platforms, specifically the Oculus Rift.

Unfortunately, as it stands, it is unlikely to arrive on the Oculus Quest.

Originally, the game wasn't intended for VR - perhaps we can hope that at some point it will arrive on consoles as a regular shooter.

Campaign & Multiplayer

It was confirmed that as well as an immersive campaign mode, there will also be a multiplayer experience.

There are few FPS games that have really engaged hardcore players and encouraged them to take up VR systems for multiplayer, but putting such an iconic brand such as Medal of Honor on it could change that entirely.

Confirmed Weapons

  • Thompson
  • M1 Garand
  • Trench Gun
  • Sidearm
  • Mark II fragmentation grenade

The game will use the Frostbite 2 engine.
