I’d expect Team of the Year to be released in the first two weeks of January, so expect players to be in packs starting either Monday, January 6th or Monday, January 13th.
GK - Alisson Becker
For me, I can’t look past the Brazilian for this years’ GK spot in TOTY. With a UEFA Champions League and Copa America trophy under his belt, and a very impressive Premier League campaign with Liverpool, Alisson makes my TOTY XI.
RB - Trent Alexander-Arnold
There’s no real doubt that Liverpool’s full-backs are the two best in the world at the moment. With a Champions League medal, and one of the best deliveries in world football, Trent Alexander-Arnold will without a doubt be the RB choice in this years’ TOTY XI.
CB - Virgil Van Dijk
Being only a handful of votes behind the Ballon d’Or winner, it’s guaranteed that Virgil Van Dijk will be the first choice CB option in the FIFA 20 TOTY.
CB - Matthijs de Ligt
Somewhat of a debate around this choice, with Sergio Ramos being a staple TOTY Defender for the last decade, however after Ajax’s impressive Champions League run in the 2018/19 season, De Ligt cannot be ignored for the FIFA 20 TOTY.
LB - Andrew Robertson
Andrew Robertson is certainly up there as being one of, if not the best left back in the world currently. With Liverpool’s Champions League win and impressive league form, Robertson should be a relatively certain choice for the FIFA 20 TOTY.
CDM - N’golo Kanté
This years’ midfielders are somewhat of a tricky area to decide upon, however I do still believe that Kanté is one of the best midfielders in the world, and should be a very popular choice in the Community vote for this years TOTY XI.
CM - Frenkie De Jong
For me, Frenkie De Jong was the first name in the midfield selection for the FIFA 20 TOTY. After Ajax’s incredible Champions League run, and then securing a big transfer to Barcelona, in which he’s flourished, Frenkie De Jong will be a very likely TOTY contender.
CAM - Kevin De Bruyne
There’s no doubt that Kevin De Bruyne is one of the best attacking players in the world, and has been highlighted by his recent form for Man City. With a Premier League title to his name in 2019, and a popular nominee from the Community vote, I’d expect him to make the FIFA 20 TOTY.
LW - Sadio Mané
It certainly takes a special player to take Cristiano Ronaldo’s spot in the TOTY, but I think Sadio Mané has the potential to do that this year. After Liverpool’s Champions League win, and an unrivalled level of form in the 2019/20 season, I can see Mané doing very well in the Community vote, and could very easily make it into the TOTY.
ST - Kylian Mbappé
Despite only being 20 years of age (turning 21 on December 20th), there’s no doubt that Mbappe is one of the top strikers we’ve seen in recent years. Ranking 6th in the Ballon d’Or voting, and with a very strong predicted Community vote percentage, I can see Mbappé featuring in the TOTY XI.
RW - Lionel Messi
After winning his 6th Ballon d’Or, Lionel Messi will be receiving a 99 rated TOTY item this year, and will likely be one of the best cards in the game.
Potential 12th Man Nominees - Cristiano Ronaldo - Neymar - Robert Lewandowski
Last year in FIFA 19 Ultimate Team, EA Sports allowed us to vote for our Community Voted 12th man for Team of the Year.
This allowed us to select one more TOTY item to be released into packs, from a number of players that just missed out on a starting XI spot. If any of these 3 don’t make the starting squad, I can see them being hot contenders for the 12th man spot.
