Pokemon Sword and Shield: How to Get Shiny Pokemon Tutorial

One of the best things to do in your spare time is to hunt for shinies and Pokemon Sword and Shield has plenty! Here's the best way to get them.

Pokemon Sword and Shield has released its second DLC pack and we can assume players are going to try their hand at shiny Pokemon

Shiny Pokemon have been one of the most sought after Pokemon for quite some time now, we have dedicated YouTubers and streamers whose sole goal is to get as many shiny Pokemon as possible.

Be sure to watch our wide variety of Pokemon content here!

Some of us have never seen a shiny, beside the red Gyrados in generation two.

Here are our tips and tricks to give you the best chances of catching a shiny Pokemon.

Catch Combos/Battle Count

One of the most used techniques in catching shiny Pokemon is the catch combo, whereby players catch the same Pokemon over and over until they see its shiny variant. Doing this can immensely increase your chances of getting a shiny Pokemon by nearly half as the rates jump from 1/4096 to 1/2048.

Another method that has been seen as what is known as the Battle Count, battling the same breed of Pokemon (up to 100 times) can also increase the chances you see a shiny Pokemon by 2.5% when paired with the catch combo.

Shiny Charm

Not many players know about the Shiny Charm that can only be obtained once you complete the ENTIRE Pokedex, yea we know that is a lot of Pokemon. Once you do eventually complete this you can head talk to a NPC who poses as a GameFreak developer and he will give you the Shiny Charm.

Doing all three of these tricks can increase your chances to 1/455 which is not that bad.

Breeding Shiny Pokemon

Of course there is also the rare chance that you can get a shiny Pokemon from breeding it, which we go over the best ways to do so in another guide. There is also another method into breeding Pokemon that can increase Masuda Method, which is combining two Pokemon from different languages and breeding them.
