Equipped with with extremely high levels of damage, the Scar is a difficult gun to master on Modern Warfare. Check out our-in-depth guide complete with class setups.

Unlocked at level 47, the SCAR in Modern Warfare is a completely different beast in comparison to the gun that was included on Modern Warfare 2.

With high levels of recoil that can be difficult to control at long range, it is still one of the best performing Assault Rifles at that range thanks to its impressive damage statistics - a great weapon for Season 5.

In this guide, we will give you three classes to try and tame this beast along with some essential Modern Warfare tips & tricks that will have you topping the scoreboards in no time at all.

Class 1 – Longshot Master

Focusing on utilising the strong damage output at range and controlling the recoil, this class is best suited to more passive players.

Attachments

  • Forge TAC 17.2” LB (Barrel)
  • Integral Hybrid (Optic)
  • XRK Obelisk Pro (Stock)
  • Granulated Grip Tape (Rear Grip)
  • Tactical Foregrip (Underbarrel)

The integral hybrid optic provides a clear view of the enemy at both close and long ranges while the tactical foregrip is perfect for a stable aim when firing at targets far away.

Perks

  • Cold Blooded (Perk 1)
  • Ghost (Perk 2)
  • Tracker (Perk 3)

The first two perks will keep you invisible from enemy UAVs and AI killstreaks with tracker providing vision on enemy footsteps to allow you to get an idea on where the opposition could be located.

Grenades

  • Proximity Mine (Lethal)
  • Decoy Grenade (Tactical)

The proxy mines can be well-hidden thanks to some of the surroundings on the map and the decoys can be used to bait any enemies into the open for you to take down with ease.

Field Upgrades

  • Deployable Cover

Perfect for using as a quick line of defence in the open.

Killstreaks

  • Care Package (4 Kills)
  • Wheelson (7 Kills)
  • Support Helo (11 Kills)

Suiting a passive style of play, the higher streaks are certainly attainable.

Class 2 – Up Close & Personal

Class number two allows you to be more aggressive with the SCAR, using its high damage and recoil to your advantage in close quarters combat.

Attachments

  • Forge TAC CQC Pro (Barrel)
  • Viper Reflex Sight (Optic)
  • FTAC Collapsible Stock (Stock)
  • Stippled Grip Tape (Rear Grip)
  • Merc Foregrip (Underbarrel)

This attachment combination makes the SCAR much more mobile, allowing it to be used at closer ranges. Its high damage is enough to contend with nearly any sub-machine gun or shotgun at closer quarters.

Perks

  • E.O.D (Perk 1)
  • Hardline (Perk 2)
  • Battle Hardened (Perk 3)

This perk combination is the current meta. EOD and Battle Hardened increase your explosives resistance, as well as flash and stun grenades, while Hardline means killstreaks take one less kill to earn.

Grenades

  • Frag Grenade (Lethal)
  • Flash Grenade (Tactical)

The ability to cook a frag grenade makes it the go-to lethal, and a well-placed flash grenade can lead to a string of easy kills.

Field Upgrades

  • Stopping Power Rounds

Stopping rounds adds insult to injury, further increasing the damage output to take down the opposition with just a few bullets in the upper body.

Killstreaks

  • Counter UAV (4 Kills)
  • Precision Airstrike (5 Kills)
  • VTOL Jet (8 Kills)

The counter UAV is ideal for disrupting enemy head-up displays in a particular area of the map while the airstrike and the VTOL jet have the potential to deliver a high number of kills when placed well.

Class 3 – The Anchor

The third and final class is designed for the most of passive of players that attempt to lock down spawns for their fellow teammates in objective game modes.

Atttachments

  • Compensator (Muzzle)
  • Forge TAC 20.0” LB (Barrel)
  • 4.0x Flip Hybrid (Optic)
  • Rubberized Grip Tape (Rear Grip)
  • Bipod Foregrip (Underbarrel)

Perfect for mounting, abusing headglitches on the map or hidden in a building, these attachments provide lots of damage and minimal recoil to lock down an area of the map easily.

Perks

  • Scavenger (Perk 1)
  • High Alert (Perk 2)
  • Tune Up (Perk 3)

Scavenger means that the likelihood of running out of ammo is very slim, High Alert increases your awareness even when scoped in and Tune Up reduces the recharge rate of the selected field upgrade, giving you access to it quicker.

Grenades

  • Semtex (Lethal)
  • Smoke Grenade (Tactical)

Semtex is good to use either to cause massive damage while the enemy is capturing a flag or it can be used as a last-ditch effort to stay alive. The smoke is good for escaping a tricky situation or to confuse the opposition.

Field Upgrades

  • Trophy System

Stop the enemy from trying to catch you with a grenade by placing a trophy system in front of wherever you are located on the map.

Killstreaks

  • Personal Radar (3 Kills)
  • Cruise Missile (5 Kills)
  • Infantry Assault Vehicle/Wheelson (7 Kills)

On the bigger maps, the infantry assault vehicle can cause an unparalleled level of damage to the enemy.
