Mousesports: Top Team in Poor Form

Mousesports should be one of the best teams in the world, but a lack of top showings have further clouded Finn "karrigan" Andersen's legacy as an all-time great IGL.

Despite having two 29-year-old veterans, Mouz is a pretty young team. The young core of David "frozen" Čerňanský, Robin "ropz" Kool, and Özgür "woxic" Eker make for highlight-reel plays and exciting Counter-Strike but have been unable to secure anything of substance. While the youngsters of Mouz have performed well, the older veterans Karrigan and Chris "chrisJ" de Jong have been unable to keep up and have noticeably impacted the team's results.

Roster

Finn "karrigan" Andersen (0.96)

One might look at Karrigan's long storied career and come to the conclusion that the Danish IGL is simply at the end of his career. While he took FaZe Clan and Astralis to some incredible heights, Karrigan was never able to win the major title he has sought for so long. While he's still a good caller, his impact has seemed to wane over the years and there are better IGL options on the free agency market that Mouz should look to if they want to get out of their current mediocrity.

David "frozen" Čerňanský (1.15)

Frozen for years was the next fabled prince of Counter-Strike and so far his debut on a pro team has gone well. While he has not been the new face of the franchise, he has certainly proved he belongs at the top. He is a quality fantasy option for owners looking to gamble on a volatile team.

Özgür "woxic" Eker (1.14)

Woxic has proven himself as the master of the flick and has wowed crowds with insane clutches and incredible AWP shots. His addition to Mouz feels the best out of anyone as the former Mouz AWPer Tomas "oskar" Stastny is currently siting on HellRaisers bench after a dismal few months with the CIS roster. Look to woxic as a great addition if you need an AWPer in fantasy.

Chris "chrisJ" de Jong (0.98)

Chrisj was one of my favorite players to watch this time last year (remember ESL One NYC?), but he has fallen off a cliff since then. The Dutch AWPer/IGL/utility man has since seen his effectiveness reduced and is looking more and more like a liability. I really miss in form Chrisj because he was one of the main reasons why this team was so scary in the first place. ChrisJ is still good on paper, and his low numbers would make him a bargain pickup for fantasy if you are looking to gamble on a cheaper player having a big tournament.

Robin "ropz" Kool (1.19)

Ropz was the original young FPL talent brought into Mouz, but it feels like now he is finally becoming the star player he was meant to be. Ropz has always been decent to good, but post roster change he looks like a new man on both offense and defense. Ropz would make a fantastic choice for fantasy if you are looking for a star player.

Recent Form

Online:

Mouz 0 - 2 VP (ECS)

GG.BET Invitational (1st)

Offline:

StarLadder Season 8 (9th-12th)

EPL Season 10 (1-4th)

DreamHack Masters Malmo 2019 (5th-6th)

V4 Future Sports Festival 2019 (3rd-4th)

The recent form has been rather atrocious for Mouz if you think about it as a top team. Their best placements come from Pro League and a top 6 at Malmo. Nothing about these results screams exciting, and losses to VP both at LAN (V4) and online (ECS) are rather troubling.

Potential for Success

Mouz have a talented young core, but they have been held back by their veterans recently. If ChrisJ and Karrigan are able to tread water, we can see woxic and ropz carry Mouz to a top-four placement. The best part about this tournament is that there will be plenty of time for Karrigan and head coach Allan "Rejin" Petersen to strategize against their opponents. Still, it is hard to see Mouz placing above top 6th.

Prediction: 5th-6th
