Respawn Will Remove Tap-Strafing in Next Apex Legends Update

Respawn is removing Apex Legends tap strafing in the 10.1 update, the developer announced on Twitter.

The team cites tap strafing's unfair advantage as the cause, saying:

"It's inaccessible, lacks readability/counterplay, and is exacerbated by movement abilities."

Tap-strafing is where players quickly move in a different direction, which lets them evade attacks or launch counters against foes. Pulling the move off normally requires a keyboard, which led some Apex players to think Respawn is trying to balance the game for console players.

Others said such a move is confusing, since console and PC players rarely get matched together anyway.

It's possible Respawn is thinking of balancing PC matches, however.

Several commenters on the Reddit thread discussing the topic said they'd never even heard of tap strafing, or if they had, they didn't know how to pull it off.

Others said the removal is unfair to high-level players, and still more said they appreciate the nerf since there's too big of a gap between skill levels.

However, the overriding consensus is that if Respawn wants a fair game, then aim assist on controllers should be next.
