As expected, a revamped version of World’s Edge is going to be the focus when Apex season six launches on Tuesday, August 18.
In a new blog post from Respawn, Apex design director Jason McCord gives a rundown of what’s different about World’s Edge in season six.
World’s Edge: What’s New In Season Six?
Respawn wants players to spend more time in the lava region of the map, so the centerpiece of the reworked World’s Edge is an all-new spot called Launch Site.
“The Launch Site can be found to the west of the Dome in a previously unoccupied lava field. The giant rocketship stands above the center of this new point of interest, and it can be seen towering over the mountains from as far away as Refinery,” McCord explains.
“This new drop location has four large control rooms to hold and tons of loot. Many squads should feel comfortable landing here, spreading out, and pushing across the raised catwalks and lava-filled terrain to be the last team standing.”
You’ll also find new pathways to rotate in and out of the map’s more popular areas, new blast walls to raise and defend, and scattered pieces of what used to be the train.
“Drill Site has been replaced with Countdown, another large Hammond facility with a mysterious purpose,” McCord says.
“The design of this [point of interest] is an imposing fortress with a tall perimeter, complete with three giant blast walls that can be activated to raise and dynamically fortify the approach from Skyhook, Lava Fissure and Train Yard.”
He adds, “There are other small additions and changes to be found throughout the map. Keep a lookout.”
The new season-six patch will go live at 1 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday morning.
In the meantime, you can enjoy the “Always Be Closing” event mode over the weekend and up until the launch of season six on Tuesday morning (or late Monday night, if you’re on the U.S. West Coast).
