Ingredients are an important part of Animal Crossing: New Horizons as they are crucial if you want to cook up delicious recipes. It can be a bit tricky to figure out how to get your hands on some ingredients. This is why we're going to show you how to get Carrots, Tomatoes, Sugarcane. Potatoes and Wheat.
How To Get Carrots, Tomatoes, Sugarcane, Potatoes and Wheat
To get Carrots, Tomatoes, Sugarcane and Wheat you need to find Leif or have very kind friends. You can do this when he visits your town or if you have unlocked his permanent stall on Harv's Island. Once you have found Leif, you need to interact with him and you will find that he is selling various plant-based items. The ones you will want to focus on are called produce starts and seeds. Leif's stock is on a weekly rotation so if you cannot find the items that that you want, you may need to come back the next week.
If you have friends who have already grown these items on their Island, then they can trade the ingredient with you or just give it to you if they're feeling generous. Apart from Leif or getting them off of friends, there are currently no other ways of obtaining these ingredients.
You can buy one Carrot Start for 280 Bells or you can buy 5 for 1,400 Bells. If you want to have a lot of Carrots quickly we recommend buying the bulk pack.
Once you've got your Carrot Starts and are back on your Island, you can plant them. Unlike Trees, you can plant produce starts next to one another which saves you a lot of space. All you need to do is water them and you should have Carrots in 4 days.
You can harvest the Carrots to use them in recipes, or you can dig a hole and plant them again to increase your vegetable patch.
You can buy one Seed Potato for 280 Bells or you can buy 5 for 1,400 Bells. If you want to have a good amount of Potatoes quickly, it's worth buying the bulk pack.
When you're back on your Island, all you need to do is dig a hole and start to plant the Seed Potatoes. It's 1 Seed Potato per hole. Water them and you should have Potatoes in 4 days. You can sell them, use them in recipes or plant them again to increase your patch.
You can buy one Tomato Seed for 280 Bells or you can buy 5 for 1,400 Bells. Tomatoes aren't as prominent in recipes but they are still useful. The number of Tomato Starts you buy is completely up to you.
Once you've taken them back to your Island, all you need to do is dig a hole and plant the Seed in the hole. It's 1 Seed per hole. Water them and in 4 days you should have bountiful Tomato Plants.
You can buy one Sugarcane Start for 280 Bells or you can buy 5 for 1,400 Bells. Sugarcane is essential in multiple cooking recipes so we highly recommend that you buy the bulk amount if you can.
Take the starts back to your island and plant them once you've dug enough holes. It's one Sugarcane Start per hole. Water them and you should have Sugarcanes in 4 days.
You can buy one Wheat Start for 280 Bells or 5 for 1,400 Bells. Wheat is a prominent ingredient in a lot of cooking recipes as it is used to make Flour. If you can afford it, it's a good idea to buy the bulk selection at first.
When you're back on your Island, simply dig holes where you want to plant them and place the Wheat Starts in them. If you water them and take care of them, you should have Wheat to harvest in 4 days.
