How To Build Fences
When you're decorating the exterior of your client's property, you can build fences. Before you can start building fences, you will need to follow these steps:
- Enter decorating mode by pressing down on your directional pad.
- Press + to cycle through the options until you get to the once with fences.
Once you've done this, you will be able to press X to open up the fence menu.
Here, you will be able to see all of the fences that are currently available to you. Fences that have the small paintbrush icon next to them can be customised. To do this, hover over the appropriate fence type and press x again to see the different variations of that fence that you can use.
Once you've chosen which fence you want to use, press B to exit the fence menu and you should see that there is a blue icon on the ground with a little fence logo inside it. If you move your left analog stick, you should see that this icon moves with it. This icon is showing you where your cursor is and it will show you which direction the fence will be facing. To rotate the direction of the fence piece you want to place down, you can press L or R on your controller.
To place a fence down, you can press A to place a single piece or you can press and hold A while moving the analog stick to build a fence row. If you want to delete any of your work then you can press Y to delete a single section or press and hold Y whilst moving the analog stick to delete multiple pieces.
It's important to remember that fences cannot be built on a curve and they will not be able to be built directly on the boundaries of properties. If you build a fence, you will lose a bit of your outdoor space.

Unfortunately for the moment, it seems that you cannot use this method when building on fences on your own Island.
