The Holiday season is behind us and all that is left for 2020 is the New Year's event.
When the clock turns midnight on December 31st, we are going to be in a New Year; 2021 to be exact.
This also means we are going to get some more festive updates from Nintendo.
Here's all you need to know about the New Year event within New Horizons!
Release Date And Time
The event will begin on New Year's eve, an hour before the new Year begins.
The event will happen according to your local timezone.
Fireworks light up your island's sky from 12am to 2am.
How To Get The New Year's Event In Animal Crossing New Horizons
On December 31st, at 5am (local time) Tom Nook and Isabelle can be found wandering around the Resident Services plaza preparing for the night's festivities.
The celebration won't start until 11pm.
These two are busy with preparations, Resident Services will be closed for the day.
A firework celebration will commence at 12am on the 1st January 2021.
Start the event off by talking to Tom Nook and Isabelle.
Nook will give you 5 poppers and Isabelle will give you a Light Stick.
A large countdown timer will appear in front of the Resident Services at the start of the day.
At 11.59 pm, all of your island's villagers will gather around to watch the remaining amount of time tick by.
When 10 seconds remain, they'll begin waving their Light Sticks about. Now's the time to pull out your own Light Stick or prepare to use your poppers.
If you talk to your fellow islanders during the celebrations, they may tell your their hopes, dreams and resolutions for the new year.
New Year Items
There are event-exclusive items as well as special items that can be bought repeatedly on the day.
Tom Nook will run a stand during the festivities for players to be able to purchase special hats (costing 500 Bells) or 5-packs of poppers (300 Bells).
Hats come in two styles: pointed party hat and a colourful top hat wtih four different colours.
However, Nook will only allow you to buy four hats this night. You'll either need to trade with friends or wait for the next New Year's event to obtain the rest of the hat variations.
The first 4 items were unlocked on December 26th in the lead-up to New Year’s Eve and are available up until the end of December 31st.
Finally, there are three more items obtainable through the New Year’s Eve Countdown event held outside of Resident Services on your island on December 31st.

- 2021 Celebratory Arch (2,021 Bells)
- Yut Nori (1,300 Bells)
- Zodiac Ox Figurine (1,600 Bells)

Redd, who is by the Town Tree, will give the player a New Year's top hat, or a New Year's party hat. They come in assorted colors, Yellow and Blue for party hats and Red and Green for top hats . The player can also receive a Party Popper, all 3 costing 300 Bells.
Isabelle will give the player an item if she is spoken to twice. The item depends on what country they live in. For example, people in North America get Sparkling Cider.
On New Year's Eve, DJ K.K. will play a remix of the New Leaf Title Theme in Club LOL.
