Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Use and Place Permanent Ladders

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 2.0 update is here. It introduces a wealth of new features and old, familiar faces that players have been asking for ever since the game's initial launch in 2020. One of the newer features that players have been hoping for is Permanent Ladders.

How to Get Permanent Ladders

Being able to set up permanent ladders around your island has been a long-awaited component in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. With bridges and inclines capped at 10 each per island, these ladders will prove very useful for being able to access your island from various areas where inclines can't be built.

To get permanent ladders, you will first need to go to the cupboard at Nook's Cranny and purchase the 'Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit' DIY Recipe. You will learn the recipe immediately, and then be able to build the permanent wooden ladder from any workbench! The recipe for the permanent ladder (shown above) requires one ladder and five wood to craft, so be sure to gather materials in advance.

How to Set Up and Use Permanent Ladders

Once you've crafted however many wooden ladders you wish to place around your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island, you can go about setting them up and using them. To do this, simply face the cliff you wish to be able to climb and select the 'Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit' in your inventory. Then, select 'Set Next to Cliff'. Once placed, you will then be able to interact with the ladder as you would with any item and climb up to the cliffs above.
