Animal Crossing: New Horizons has launched its biggest update yet, Version 2.0. The update introduces a wealth of new features, with elements of the prior games now available on your New Horizons island! Harv's Island, previously a photography hub, has now expanded to host some fan-favourite traders and special characters, including Tortimer.

Who is Tortimer?
Tortimer is an elderly tortoise who, frankly, never seems to stop talking about retirement plans. Shown above, he also regularly takes on the role of Cornimer during the season of autumn, involving him wearing a rather terrifying acorn mask and hat. For an ancient tortoise, he certainly has a reputable sense of humour and simply never wants to give up working.
During prior games of the Animal Crossing series, Tortimer takes on the form of town mayor, assisting the player with creating the perfect town. Eventually, this role will be passed onto Tom Nook and yourself in New Horizons! Yet, his appearance is very much a welcome return, and players are delighted to see that Tortimer lives on.
How to Unlock Tortimer
The New Horizons 2.0 update has seen Harv's Island get a grand makeover, introducing a Plaza of various shops and traders for you to unlock. To unlock the shops that the Harv's Plaza has available, you will need to speak to the different construction foremen around the area. These little Gyroids are all known as Lloid, and will have been in charge of all constructions around your island previously, such as your bridges and inclines.
The specific foreman for Tortimer's shop will be located in the upper left corner of Harv's Plaza. As with every trader, you will need to make a generous donation of up to 100,000 bells to begin construction. Once you have funded the project, the shop will open the following day, with Tortimer himself available for you to visit and speak to!
What Does Tortimer Do?
Once Tortimer sets up shop on Harv's Island, he will offer a very useful storage service for you to use while you're there. It's likely that while going from trader to trader spending your hard-earned bells, your pockets may become full of various items. When they're full, you may not quite be done with shopping yet, and that's where Tortimer steps in!
Speaking with Tortimer gives you two options, you can send items in your pockets directly to your homes' storage, so that you can continue shopping. Alternatively, if you need items from your homes' storage while on Harv's Island for whatever reason, you can request to deliver things directly to your pockets from there too!
