Is Aliens: Fireteam Elite Canon?

On paper, Aliens: Fireteam Elite seems like yet another co-op shooter that’s hoping the power of this franchise entices gamers to give it a chance, but the gameplay and weapons that were shown thus far have been intriguing, which got fans talking about its place in the canon.

While we doubt this game will break the same ground as the acclaimed Alien: Isolation, fans are always down for a new co-op shooter and lord knows we all want to forget about Aliens: Colonial Marines, which probably isn’t canon (anymore).

Is Aliens: Fireteam Elite Canon?

During an interview with IGN, it was revealed that the various campaigns in Aliens: Fireteam Elite is, indeed, canon to the story, taking place 100 years after the original trilogy with a prequel novel on the way.

Though gameplay will be the major selling point of Aliens: Fireteam Elite, the fact that it’s canon to the timeline (for now) is intriguing and we’re interested in seeing how they implement events from Alien, Aliens, and the controversial Aliens 3.

As if treating Aliens 3 as canon isn’t controversial enough, the developers of Aliens: Fireteam Elite is also interested in bringing elements from Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, two odd films fans are still debating about.

Still, it’s rather brave of the team to consider including elements from those moves and if they make for entertaining combat in Aliens: Fireteam Elite, fans won’t complain too much about how canon this game is.

Currently, Aliens: Fireteam Elite is scheduled for a vague 2021 release on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
